The unemployment rate is on my mind.
As we are all aware, the U.S. economy has surpassed the 10.2 percent jobless rate for the first time since 1983. However, the numerical significance means little to me; instead, I am more intensely aware of and struck by the differences between the quality of people who interview for employment today and the quality of people who interviewed back then.
The main difference between then and now is the willingness of individuals in 1983 to work at whatever task or job that was available. I cannot remember the last time I heard someone say, “Let me in and I’ll earn my keep.” Today, we can tell the ones who come in just to say they interviewed in order to maintain their UI benefits. It seems that in the U.S., we somehow lost touch with the way things were, whereby productivity was rewarded. For some time now, the arrogance of certain bankers and so-called people “in the know” replaced their willingness to put in a hard day’s work with lip service; and consequently, this service almost killed our economy.
The good news is that we are bringing along one of the smartest groups of young people in history. As the decreased ability in regards to home ownership and diminished paychecks become a reality, the youthful work ethic will return. I am excited and eager to witness this occurrence.
At Global Electronic Technology, Inc. (GET), we stand ready to lead the way into the future with a team of young re-energized future leaders, ready to take on the rest of the world “again” in the market place.
